Studying “Joyful Path of Good Fortune” by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
With Resident Teacher Gen Kelsang Gakyi
Thursdays 7 – 9pm
The benefits of studying on FP
There are three reasons why we benefit from the study and practice of Buddhism and meditation:
- Increase wisdom
- Cultivate a good heart
- Maintain a peaceful state of mind
Although we wish for happiness, ignorance leads us to engage in negative actions, which are the main cause of all our suffering, therefore we need to develop our wisdom. If we do not cultivate a good heart, a selfish motivation destroys harmony and good relationships with others. We have no peace, and no chance to gain pure happiness. Without inner peace, outer peace is impossible. If we do not maintain a peaceful state of mind we are not happy even if we have ideal conditions. On the other hand, when our mind is peaceful we are happy even if our external conditions are unpleasant. Therefore, the development of these qualities is of utmost importance for our daily happiness.
How do I start?
You are welcome to join the programme at any time. Please contact us to arrange a free taster session.
When you join the Foundation Programme, you commit to studying one book. This can take differing lengths of time, depending on which book is being studied, and how far through we are.
What to expect
The programme consists of a dynamic combination of teachings, meditation, and discussion, all of which enable us to go deeper into the layers of meaning within each book that we study. All of this helps us to make real progress along our spiritual path.
The programme runs to normal school term times. Each class consists of preliminary prayers, guided meditation and reading from the book with commentary and discussion.
